The Department of Pathology at Children's Hospital & Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient laboratory diagnostic services. Board certified pathologists with sub specialization in pediatric pathology, hematology, chemistry, microbiology and cytology provide consultation in clinical and anatomic pathology. The pathologists are available to facilitate effective test ordering and result interpretation. A full spectrum of tests is available, including specialized tests that are unavailable elsewhere in the region.
Specialty services encompass laboratory pathologic diagnosis and prognosis of:
- Bone marrow disorders
- Coagulation disorders
- Developmental and genetic disorders
- Gastrointestinal diseases
- Infectious disorders
- Leukemias and lymphomas
- Metabolic disorders
- Pediatric tumors
- Transfusion-related problems
Special services include:
Identification of inborn metabolic disorders and rapid identification of infectious bacterial and viral agents.
