Specialty Pediatric Center
Growing Specialty Care
The Specialty Pediatric Center at Children's Hospital & Medical Center opened to patients in September 2010. It is the largest outpatient specialty center in the region dedicated to meeting the unique needs of pediatric patients.
The Children's Specialty Pediatric Center is located at 84th Street and West Dodge Road in Omaha. It represents an expansion of both size and services at the Children's Hospital & Medical Center campus.
"The Specialty Pediatric Center features a modern look designed specifically for children who need to see specialists in an outpatient clinic setting. The space is larger and more flexible than our current clinic areas and is better designed for the team-approach to care that we practice in our multi-disciplinary clinics," said Gary A. Perkins, FACHE, president and CEO of Children's. "We believe this facility will enable us to serve the needs of children, their families and the community for the next 20 years and beyond."
At five stories tall and 135,000 square feet, the Specialty Pediatric Center is home to more than 30 pediatric-focused clinics that schedule more than 52,000 patient visits each year.
The entire fifth floor of the Specialty Pediatric Center is dedicated to the Children's laboratory comprised of pathology, microbiology, virology and molecular diagnostics. Sophisticated lab support is a key component in the identification and treatment of pediatric illnesses and conditions ranging from common to rare.
The center also includes many family-friendly features starting with a child safety seat fitting station in the multi-level parking garage which adds nearly 300 parking stalls to the Children's campus. Families can park beneath the center and take the elevator directly to their clinic floor. Electronic screens offer daily schedule updates and aid in navigation.
Once inside, bold colors deliver an energetic welcome. Wall sized learning murals provide for interesting and educational discoveries, and sweeping windows allow for unparalleled views.
An electronic medical record is utilized by every clinic - giving real time, comprehensive access to important medical information. Additional work space and conference rooms facilitate collaboration among multi-disciplinary teams.
"Kids' Camp" can be found on the main level, just off the elevators from the parking garage. Children's hopes to help parents focus on their time with the doctor by providing a supervised play area and activity space for siblings of patients.
Construction began in early 2008. The project cost $55 million and was funded by operational reserves, philanthropic donations and bond issue proceeds.
