NICU Programs and Services
At Children's Hospital & Medical Center, our NICU is a Level IV Regional NICU, which means we provide the most advanced level of neonatal care available. As a Level IV Regional NICU, our staff has immediate 24-hour access to all pediatric specialists and surgeons. It is a place where a medical team dedicated to tiny patients and anxious parents gives support and hope in a caring and compassionate atmosphere. The 46-bed unit spans two floors and offers young patients intensive therapies such as ventilators (respirators), medications that can be given only under close medical supervision, as well as central venous and arterial lines. Our Level IV designation also means we offer advanced medical therapies such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). ECMO is essentially heart/lung bypass for children whose heart or lungs have temporarily stopped functioning.
Waiting rooms are equipped with a kitchenette and sibling play area, which enable families to participate in their newborn's healing. Radiology viewing rooms on each floor help speed diagnosis and treatment. An education room offers space for staff to teach families how to care for and nurture their newborns. Isolation rooms, a procedure room, pharmacy support and office space allow physicians and staff to remain close to the most critically ill patients.
