The therapists in Rehab Services (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy) at Children's Hospital & Medical Center are specially trained to evaluate and treat a variety of developmental issues that may arise with your baby while in the NICU.
Working with your baby's medical team, the physical and occupational therapist will examine, evaluate and provide suggestions for developmental concerns, self-calming techniques and positioning issues. The occupational and speech therapists will examine, evaluate and provide suggestions for any feeding problems that may arise with your baby while he or she is in the NICU.
When it's time to take your baby home, special needs may arise. For those infants who may have special transportation concerns, the physical therapist can evaluate and recommend an appropriate child passenger safety seat for use at discharge. For some babies, our NICU Follow-up Clinic may be recommended to monitor any long-term needs. We also have measures in place to refer babies to specialty clinics or early intervention services.
