Richard Lutz, M.D., medical director of the clinic and fellowship-trained in pediatric genetics, endocrinology and metabolism, is involved in research on infantile hypophosphatasia, a rare, inherited bone disorder characterized by a deficiency of alkaline phosphate. A clinical trial is being conducted in coordination with the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and a research pharmaceutical company. The Bone Metabolic Clinic is testing the use of recombinant human alkaline phosphatase as a replacement therapy for the disorder.
