Frequent Questions

What should I know before choosing toys or supplies to donate to Children's Hospital & Medical Center?

For the well-being of our patients, we follow strict safety and infection control policies, so we are only able to accept NEW items. We need NEW toys, games and supplies that can be used in playrooms and at patients' bedsides, and we appreciate gift cards from businesses that provide appropriate children's toys, craft supplies and entertainment goods.

Please refer to our Wish List of preferred items when considering a donation.

May I donate used toys?

Due to infection control guidelines, patient allergies and safety precautions, we are only able to give our patients newly purchased toys in original packaging.

While many used stuffed animals and toys appear new and clean, items in a home environment may have been exposed to germs, dust, pets and bacteria which create a risk to patients who may have allergies and fragile immune systems.

Where, when, and how do I deliver my donation?

Donations are accepted at the Children's Hospital & Medical Center front desk. You may bring donations at your convenience during business hours:

Monday-Friday - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please complete a Donation Contribution Transaction Form at the front desk when you bring your gift. Children's will send you written acknowledgement of your donation.

Contact Us if you'd like to discuss scheduling an appointment to make your donation.

Are my donations tax deductible?

To receive written acknowledgement of your donation for tax purposes, please ask for a Donation Contribution Transaction Form when you bring your gift to the front desk. Following IRS guidelines, Children's does not specify the dollar value of donations.

How will my donation be used?

Toy and other items donated to Children's are utilized in playrooms, support groups, as in-room activities for patients and in conjunction with therapies.

May I personally deliver my donations directly to the patients?

For the well-being of our patients, we protect patient confidentiality and follow strict safety and infection control policies. Donors are generally not permitted to visit our patients.

Will someone pick up my donation?

We are unable to pick up your donation due to staffing and transportation limitations.

May I come perform for Children's patients?

If you or your group is interested in performing at the hospital, please refer to our Special Guest & Visitor Guidelines or contact us for more information.

May I donate food and/or candy to the patients?

No food, including candy, may be given to our patients. Many patients are on dietary restrictions and cannot have certain foods. However, Rainbow House, which provides accommodations for families and patients undergoing acute, long-term treatment at Children's Hospital & Medical Center, does accept donations of food. Please review the Rainbow House Donation Guidelines or call (402) 955-7815 for more information.
