Weight Management - HEROES Program
Welcome to the Healthy Eating with Resources, Options and Everyday Strategies (HEROES) program at Children's Hospital & Medical Center, a medical-directed, multi-disciplinary program designed to address childhood obesity. The HEROES team is made up of a pediatrician, physician assistant, nurses, dietitian, social worker, psychologist and exercise specialist who are committed to helping your child succeed. Participation in HEROES will help you and your child begin a life-long commitment to a healthy lifestyle. We understand that the changes your child will need to make may be difficult and challenging. That's why our program uses a multi-disciplinary team approach to address the various components of this program including medical management, nutrition, exercise, behavior modification and behavior therapy. Our primary goal is to improve the health of your child through weight management, which in turn, will reduce health problems associated with obesity or being overweight.
The HEROES clinic is an active participant with the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions' (NACHRI) FOCUS on a Fitter Future II. Launched in September 2010, this group has brought together colleagues from children's hospitals across the country to address challenges associated with treating childhood obesity in the clinical setting. Self-defined work objectives created by the group include, but are not limited to, the development of treatment standards of care to minimize practice variability, policy development, infrastructure building, research, and the development of standards for a healthy hospital. The HEROES staff is proud of its collaboration with NACHRI and we are excited about the benefits our involvement will provide to our patients.
