Every second, a child in the US seeks emergency care. When you are working as an emergency nurse in a pediatric hospital, you see these children every single day.
The Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) was designed by the Emergency Nurses Association to help nurses like you recognize and treat children with acute illnesses or injuries, in the most timely and appropriate manner.
This course is required for our Emergency Department nurses, but is also open to other nurses and physician assistants.
Class Description
ENPC teaches you to systematically assess an emergency, identify interventions, and integrate associated anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology into your emergency response.
We use several different teaching methods throughout the course, including:
- Two-day intensive course taught by instructors who are experts in the field: The faculty to student ratio is approximately 1 faculty per 4 participants.
- Hands-on training using both a team and individual approach: You will take part in six teaching scenarios, which offer you the opportunity to practice initial assessments in real-life situations in a risk-free setting. These are completed in six skill stations:
- Airway/ventilation
- Pediatric multiple trauma
- Pediatric resuscitation
- Position/securing
- Triage
- Vascular access/medication administration
- Five online learning modules: These modules can be completed at your own pace. You will have access to the information at any time in the future.
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course Provider Manual: This manual provides you with evidence-based content, written by pediatric emergency experts.
The ENPC program covers many topics, such as:
- Child maltreatment
- Crisis intervention
- Developmental and cultural considerations
- Epidemiology
- Ethical and legal concerns
- Neonatal emergencies
- Pain assessment and management
- Pediatric trauma and medical emergencies
- Pediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT) for assessing emergencies and prioritizing care
- Respiratory emergencies, failure, and shock
- Stabilization
- Techniques for interacting with children and families
- Toxicological and environmental issues
- Transport
- Triage
ENPC is taught by Krisi Kult, BSN, RN, CPEN, CPN.
Completion & Certification
You may qualify for a verification card by earning 80% or higher on the multiple-choice exam, and 70% or higher on skill station evaluation. The verification card is valid for 4 years.
Course attendance counts for 15.58 contact hours.

- If you are going west on Dodge Street (coming from 72nd Street), turn left onto N 78th St/Beverly Drive. Then turn left onto Farman Drive. The Fitness Center Building is on right.
- If you are going east on Dodge Street, turn right onto N 78th Street/Beverly Drive. Then turn left onto Farnam Drive. The Children’s Fitness Center Building will be on your right.

Children’s employees with ENPC requirement (Emergency Department nurses): Free
Non-employees: $330
Payment can be made by debit card or credit card only.
Cancellation Policy
A full refund will be given if you cancel 7 days prior to the first day of the course.
