Transesophageal echocardiography

Occasionally, transesophageal echocardiography may be needed to obtain more detailed cardiac images.

After your child is anesthetized, a small instrument, called a transducer, is placed in your child's esophagus which passes very near the heart.

This technique is often performed during open heart surgery or certain interventional catheterization procedures.
