Children are at the heart of who we are and everything we do, and it is with them in mind that Children’s Hospital & Medical Center has launched the five-year, $50 million Changing Lives Together Capital Campaign. We believe this campaign has the power to improve the health and well-being of the smallest and sickest among us for generations to come – at least 30 years into the future – and transform Children’s into one of the great epicenters of pediatric health care in the nation and in the world.
Steady Growth From Near & Far
Since its founding in 1948 in the midst of the polio epidemic, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center has been on the leading edge of pediatric care in Omaha and across the region. This has led to steady, significant growth in the number of patients served and the variety of programs and services provided.
In fact, in recent years 70 percent of patient growth has come from greater Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Kansas, Missouri and other states. These numbers reflect Children’s role as the region’s pediatric health care leader and illustrate just how many precious children and families are counting on us to evolve and be the very best.
A Transformational Vision
The Changing Lives Together Capital Campaign will support plans to expand Children’s main campus and regional presence, elevate pediatric critical care and foster ground-breaking research.
A new addition, called the Center for Children, will be home to an expanded Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Care Center and much more. It will be built between the hospital and the Specialty Pediatric Center, creating a third structure along West Dodge Road that will integrate architecturally with the existing buildings. The buildings will connect so that staff and patients will be able to move conveniently through all three spaces. New construction also will include a parking garage to meet the growing parking needs for patient families and staff.
Children’s vision radiates beyond 84th and Dodge, stretching to all corners of the Heartland. We aim to serve more families in west Omaha with a new outpatient surgery center, sports physical therapy, rehabilitation services and specialty clinics. Our primary care network is growing across the metro area as well, adding more providers and moving existing offices into other facilities to accommodate increasing demand. We also plan to expand services across Omaha and in Lincoln, Iowa and South Dakota, offering improved access to care and convenience for families.
Expanded Hospital, Expanded Care
This expansion plan is rooted in the firm belief that children and families deserve a greater depth and breadth of pediatric services and the highest quality, highest-value care. A dynamic, world-renowned children’s hospital will draw patients and medical expertise from around the country, in addition to attracting new businesses and families to the area. New facilities and cutting-edge programs will take our robust education and research efforts to the next level. This campaign won’t just expand and elevate Children’s; it will have the same positive effect on the greater Omaha metropolitan area.
