Addressing a Tragedy, Advocating for Children: A Message from Children’s President & CEO Chanda Chacón

In the wake of Tuesday’s tragic events in Uvalde, Texas, Children’s Nebraska grieves for the lives lost and offers support to those impacted by this senseless act. Along with other children’s hospitals nationwide, we stand with Children’s Hospital Association in calling for the leadership of our country to strengthen efforts to keep our children safe.

Violence against children anywhere is violence against children everywhere. Events like those in Texas threaten the health and well-being of all children, well beyond the immediate sphere of the violence. Children’s remains deeply committed to advocacy related to mental health and gun violence—both of which are large and growing public health crises in the United States. Protecting children’s health and speaking up for their safety is central to our mission to improve the life of every child.

While our hearts are heavy, our voices will remain raised on behalf of children and families. Whether offering resources to families on how to help their children cope in the face of tragedies or advocating for policy change, we are dedicated to making our region and our world a safer place where all children can grow and thrive.
