My name is Elizabeth Hastreiter, but people often refer to me as my nickname, Buffy. I am a nurse practitioner at Children’s Physicians at University of Nebraska Medical Center. I would hope that my patients would describe me as genuine, a good listener, and accepting. I meet patients where they are — so, non-judgmental. I would hope that they view me as a part of their team in taking care of their kids. Kids that I see are newborns up through college-age. I do a lot of newborn exams, well-child exams, and toddler exams. I see kids with asthma. I see kids with ear infections or colds. I’ll see adolescents with menstrual difficulties or emotional difficulties. Again, I see all the way through college age. Something unique that I provide here is the Nexplanon implantable contraceptive device. For adolescents who want contraception, they don’t have to worry about taking it every day or every 3 months. These girls will come to me, and we’ll talk about the implantable device. We’ll go over how it works, how we’ll put it in, and how long it has to stay in. I do see a fair number of young ladies that are requesting that kind of service. I would hope that patients would trust me because if I don’t know the answer, I’m not going to make something up. I’m going to refer them on to somebody who will or contact one of my colleagues. I will give my patients an honest answer 100 percent of the time. If I don’t know, I’ll tell you I don’t know, and we’ll figure it out together.
