My name is Dr. John Walburn. I’m a pediatrician at Children’s Physicians, University of Nebraska Medical Center. My career has been pretty much underserved families from North and South Omaha. I’m on my third generation of those families, and that is one of the things I’m most proud of. A lot of the specialists, particularly here in Omaha, who are trained in this program — I helped train them. I’m very comfortable picking up the phone and calling them, and I’ve known people for years and years. We all have a very good working relationship. Asthma is by far the biggest chronic illness we see, and also headaches and seizure disorders. I prefer to take care of those types of kids with chronic illnesses, and those are the people I see most. I’m open and honest with them. I treat everybody the same. I ask questions. I don’t limit the amount of time I have with everybody. I spend as much time as I need. I call families, and they’re free to call me on a regular basis. I think that’s a big part of it.
