Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)
At Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, we are committed to growth and expansion that will allow us to not only continue to offer exceptional cardiac care, but also to increase our ability to offer that care to our patients in innovative ways. The Theodore F. Hubbard, M.D., Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) which will be located in the Hubbard Center for Children (set to open in 2021), is a key part of that commitment. Our ongoing dedication to quality, innovative care for our patients has led to Children’s being ranked 15th nationally in Pediatric Cardiology & Heart Surgery by U.S. News & World Report as well as being a three-time magnet designated facility. How Will The CCU Be Different From Children’s Current Model Of Cardiac Care?
The CCU will provide inpatient care for patients from 34 weeks gestation to 21 years of age with congenital or acquired heart disease. It will be a space that is solely dedicated to all levels of inpatient cardiac care, from admission through discharge. The 32-bed unit will follow an adaptable acuity care model, with all rooms capable of functioning as an intensive care unit or step-down unit.
The CCU will be staffed by critical care physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses 24 hours a day. The patient population will include cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical patients; pre- and post-surgical repair and/or heart catheterization patients; medical patients with heart failure, transplant, shock, or pulmonary hypertension; and patients needing ECMO support.
Where Can I Apply To Work In The CCU?
While the Hubbard Center for Children is still under construction, we are actively seeking CCU nursing staff members.

“Of course, my favorite thing about Children’s Hospital & Medical Center are the patients. I have met so many inspiring and brave children, and their families are truly grateful for our help. I also like that Children’s see patients from all walks of life with many different health conditions. I am constantly expanding and adding to my clinical skills, and other staff members are encouraging of that endeavor and always willing to collaborate. It’s wonderful to be part of a community of like-minded individuals who are all working toward the same goals.”
Laura, Au.D., Doctor of Audiology
